Oracle to introduce new 12c database

The c in 12c stands for cloud

Oracle is set to introduce the new 12c database designed for cloud computing at the OpenWorld conference in San Francisco in US on 30 September 2012.

The new version will be first revamped version of its flagship database programme in five years and will be available as is an infrastructure cloud service for the Oracle Cloud.

12c database will have features for secure multi-tenancy within a single database as well as cloud enabled, compared Internet ready Oracle 9i and grid enabled Oracle 10g and 11g.

12c database will have features that enables the software handle various jobs using virtualisation technology.

Oracle will serve various companies’ data-processing needs from the same information storehouse with the help of 12c database which will be introduced late this year or early next year.

Through its Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software, Oracle has been attempting many of the deployment and resource optimisation benefits.

As Exalogic delivers only virtual network, storage and server-level capacity, a new Exadata Database Machine to be revealed at Open World is expected to make full use of the database virtualization capabilities of the 12c database.

Oracle had reported 2% decline in its revenues to $8.2bn in first quarter of fiscal 2013, when compared to $8.3bn for the same period last year.

New software license sales and cloud subscription revenues rose 5% to $1.6bn for the quarter.

In August this year, Oracle had unveiled the new version of its application server for conventional and cloud-based C/C++/COBOL applications, Oracle Tuxedo 12c which is optimised to run on Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud.

In April 2012, Oracle had unveiled Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center 12c which will allow its customers to adopt cloud computing faster and with less effort and risk.
