Google has launched the updated version for its Maps app for Android powered devices, which will include the Local Guides feature.

Previously known as City Experts, Local Guides has been designed to get users to review and post about local businesses.

Just like Yelp, Local Guides is designed to highlight top reviewers, and as a user hits 50 reviews, they will get a Local Guides badge on their account, reported 9to5Google.

Using the Google account credentials, anyone interested in becoming a local guide can sign up to the service. According to the search giant the effort is to help users get to know businesses.

Google has also added benefits for users at different levels which can be achieved by writing more reviews. At the first level, users will get invites to members-only contests along with latest program benefits and features.

In the second level the review writers will become eligible for testing Google products and features before public release.

Fifty plus reviews will fetch users a Local Guides badge which will also make them eligible for invites to exclusive events.
