Chinese PC maker Lenovo has acquired US based software company Stoneware for undisclosed sum to expand its cloud computing applications.
The acquisition will help the company expand its services allowing customers to link the company’s devices directly on the Internet.
The acquisition will see Lenovo add various technologies and accelerate its capabilities for both commercial and consumer cloud applications as well as providing secure content across multiple devices in education and government.
Lenovo Product Group senior vice president and president Peter Hortensius said: "Adding Stoneware cloud computing into the Lenovo line up presents a significant opportunity to leverage their success, and enhance our PC Plus offerings, all to the benefit of our customers."
The PC maker will help Stoneware to extend its cloud products, including webNetwork and LanSchool, which serves the users in education and the public sector.
Lenovo will also help Stoneware’s to extend its footprint in government and in education, into more consumer-focused applications over time.
The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of 2012 and financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Following the acquisition, Stoneware’s team of 67 employees will be integrated into Lenovo and the team will remain in Indiana and Utah and will continue to sell both webNetwork and LanSchool.
In August, Lenovo had signed an agreement with EMC to develop and sell network storage.
