Cloud-based file storage and sharing service provider Dropbox is planning to build its new international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland, which will be its first office outside the home market to support its European business.
Dropbox offers a free service that allows users to access and share documents, photos and videos from any location in the world.
The firm is also planning to hire about 30 to 40 individuals by the end of 2013 and they will join the existing 240 employees at its San Francisco office, with the initial focus on sales and customer support as well as engineering development.
Dropbox CEO and co-founder Drew Houston said that the new office brings the firm closer to millions of its European customers.
"By opening our international headquarters in Dublin and tapping into the large talent pool that exists there, we’re better positioned to serve even more people locally while we continue to grow," Houston said.
Founded in 2007, the cloud firm has about a third of its 100 million customers in Europe, one-third in Asia and a third in the rest of the world, which includes the US.
The investment for the new headquarters is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland. IDA Ireland CEO Barry O’Leary said: "Dropbox’s decision to locate in Dublin further adds to the existing cluster of world-class internet brands that have chosen Ireland as a location for their international operations."
