There are thousands of apps which SME’s could use to help improve workflows, communications and efficiencies but don’t waste time looking for what to use, CBR has compiled a handy list of the apps you simply must have.

1. Skype

Skype is a must have application for all SME’s it basically turns your computer into a phone for either making or receiving calls and for a small fee you can also call landlines and mobile phones.

The tool is ideal for SME’s to keep in touch with everyone they work with and will allow your colleagues and clients to meet without leaving the comfort of your office, which will undoubtedly save time and money.

2. Office 365

Microsoft’s Office 365 is synonymous with offices around the world from large to small. The offerings include programs which have been used and trusted for decades such as Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint and many others.

It is simply a must have for all SME’s.

3. Box

Box.com is an ideal file folder cloud storage system which has now been closely integrated with Office 365, making it even more useful.

The system allows you to instantly access your folders, work or whatever you have saved from wherever you are. So no longer do you have to worry that you cannot access that document you saved on your office computer.

4. Toggl

Simply put it is a time-tracking app which allows you to create tasks and projects and then assign a certain amount of time to each project. Ideal for managing workloads and for improving billing accuracy on time sensitive projects.

The tool helps to keep everything in order.

5. Quickbooks

The app is designed to help with your accounting by monitoring cash flow, creating VAT returns, setting budgets and creating business reports.

Based on the extremely useful and popular desktop program it is now accessible from anywhere in the world, so you can now put any commute or down time to good use.

6. Evernote

Evernote is one of the most useful tools on the market when it comes to organisational programs. The tool allows users to store and sort notes and files while indexing them for easy search and retrieval, combined with syncing across all of your devices the tool makes it easy for you to have your information close to hand.

7. Google Apps for business

The scale which Google Apps covers the apps market means that it removes the need for many other computer programs. Allowing to create and save text documents, spreadsheets, slide shows and with functionality built in so that collaboration is made easy; Google Docs one of the most useful tools on its own.

Google Docs on its own may have been good enough to make the list but Google’s offering doesn’t end there. Customers also have access to a number of other apps including Gmail for Business which gives companies personalised email accounts which have the good storage space of Gmail.

8. FlashPanel

FlashPanel is a tool that’s worth having alongside Google Apps if you want to have extra control over your cloud management and have added security tools. The tool gives administrators access to security tools that include being able to manage passwords, set and enforce email settings, control users’ sharing of Google Drive files and be able to control user access.

9. Chatter

This app works as a social network which makes it easy for employees to collaborate and share files. The system allows for communication which is open to all – so in terms of information sharing and gathering it is excellent. If you are keen to promote communcation through your organisation then a tool like Chatter is a good place to start.

10. Mozy

The online backup service is an alternative option for those looking for a cloud backup service and although it is not free the service does have a number of worthwhile offerings. The service will continuously backup the files on a computer or server so your business won’t have to worry about data loss.

Not only are files backed up continuously but they are also encrypted with military-grade-256-bit AES key security so you can run your business safe and sound without having to worry about the security of your data.
