The fight for 4G customers gets bigger today as Vodafone and O2 launch rival services against the high-speed EE networks.
O2 and Vodafone’s 12-month 1GB SIM-only price package is offered at £26 per month. O2 packages increases to £36 per month for 5GB of data, while Vodafone said users can receive 8GB of data, unlimited for three months.
EE still offers the cheapest starter package at £21 per month for 500MB, rising to £26 per month for 1GB.
However, Three said it plans to offer 4G in December at no extra cost to its customers, hoping that this will give it an advantage over Vodafone, O2 and EE, each of which will charge a monthly premium of at least £5. This also means it will not be launching a complementary content package unlike its competitors.
Rivals are also investing in advertising to lure more customers.
Vodafone has enlisted Star Wars character for its advertising, while users will get access to live sport from Sky, or Spotify’s vast music library, with their 4G packages. The content is free for only a limited period.
O2, which is operating its Be More Dog advertising campaign, is hiring singer and rapper Plan B to perform at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London tonight. Like Vodafone, its package includes music, sport and gaming add-ons.
EE 4G’s advertising campaign, created by advertising giant Saatchi & Saatchi, features Hollywood star Kevin Bacon in a series of adverts.
