What are CIOs fretting about?

A study reveals how CIOs are coping in an increasingly-connected world.

By Cbr Rolling Blog

The purpose of technology is to make our lives easier, but CIOs are finding themselves under pressure to deliver more as businesses become more relevant in the connected world.

About 51% of CIOs say digital initiatives such as cloud, mobile and Internet of Things (IoT) are piling up faster than they can cope, while 42% don’t feel that they have the skills and capabilities to face this future.

The figure was even higher in Australia, where 59% admit they are unable to respond fast enough to digital opportunities.

The advent of the web, followed by an acceleration of communication and technological advancements has brought us benefits. We’re living longer, third world countries can receive the necessary medications faster and we can learn anything we want with a mouse click.

But this seems to be coming at the expense of other pleasures in life, so the figures suggest.

While day to day tasks and human contact have become easier, CIOs, among other professionals I’m sure, are working harder.

The analyst firm said there is tension between IT’s desire to do things their own way and the prospect of building digital leadership while renovating the core of IT infrastructure for the future.
