Mac Timeline

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Macintosh computer, and Apple has celebrated with a video upload and interactive timeline on their website.

The video shows you the progression of the Mac, how it looked from the beginning and the timeline of transformation that it has taken over the past three decades.

It also features real life users of the Mac, from fashion designers to musicians, who defends its design, tools and capabilities.

The web page has a scrolling timeline at the bottom of the page that is separated into years. You can click each year individually to open a new web page that looks in depth at the Mac’s achievements during that year.

There is also a section called ‘Your first Mac’. It allows visitors to the page to click on an image of their first Macintosh and input in what country they used it and what exactly did they use it for (design, programming, gaming etc.). Once you have entered your details a message appears saying: ‘Thanks for being part of the Mac story’. The data is constantly being collected and updating statistics at the bottom of the page, explaining the most popular first Macs and, over the years, what people have been using them for. There has been a big rise in people using them mainly for internet use and for photography editing, although Macs were mainly used for educational purposes during the early days.
