The Facebook De-friend Tango

Facebook users are constantly friending and giving their Facebook friends the boot, but what makes a Facebook user give their friends on the site the axe?

By Cbr Rolling Blog

A social media survey released this year by NM Incite surveyed nearly 2,000 adults over the age of 18 and revealed that 82% of females on Facebook add friends because they actually know them in real life. The second highest reason was they have mutual friends coming in at 60%.

Male Facebook users had very different reasons for accepting Facebook friends with reasons being business networking opportunities, physical attractiveness, and even the quality of profile photos.

55% of females tended to defriend someone due to an offensive comment or they felt they didn’t know the person very well with 41% cutting friends on this basis. Male users tended to mainly delete friends if they try to sell them something.

Across the board 23% of Facebook users gave friends the chop if they posted depressing comments and 14% if the comments were political.

Well, I guess people appreciating self expression isn’t too popular anymore.
