Randi Zuckerberg, sister of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, is publishing a book about getting kids offline and away from computer screens.
The book sees a female protagonist called Dot showing kids that although technology is great, there’s more to life when you step outside.
On her blog, Randi wrote: "Dot loves technology. A LOT, but with a little push, she’s reminded that life’s a little bit richer when you look up from the screen."
In the promotional video for the book, the concept of tapping, swiping and sharing using touch screen iPad screens, and sharing content on websites such as Facebook, is replaced by tap dancing, swiping a paint brush across a canvas and sharing a cookie with her pet dog.
As much as I love technology and think it is vital in our everyday lives for communication, I don’t think children need it as much. They should definitely put down their iPads and turn off the TV and go play outside.
However we do wonder, what does her brother Mark think of this? Especially since Facebook has been loosening privacy settings for teenagers as they are seen as Facebook’s main target audience? Christmas at the Zuckerberg’s house this year might be a little awkward…
