Samsung’s ‘fonblet’ is here

Ever harder to pronounce mobile device is better than a phablet, says company.

By Cbr Rolling Blog

During its Analyst Day in its home city of Seoul, Samsung has used "fonblet" in reference to some of its large screen phones, including the Galaxy Note 3.

Now, we’ve all got used to the term ‘phablet’, a cheesy portmanteau which describes something of a phone/tablet crossover, but what Samsung are thinking here is beyond me.

With much disdain for the word phablet (why can’t we just use phone, if it is one?) I must admit that it does roll off the tongue rather nicely. It’s trendy, goes well in a ‘manbag’ and is definitely a better term than ‘large-screened mobile device with market leading tablet functionality’.

But fonblet? FONBLET?

I don’t even know how to pronounce it? Fonblet as in phone-blet or fonblet as in Samsung you’ve got it all wrong-blet?

It sounds like your mouth is tripping up, or you’re speaking Klingon.

Company CEO JK Shin used the word fonblet several times in his presentation at the event, and a series of slides have been leaked online that also refer to the fonblet.
