Netflix gains first Oscar nomination

Thanks to The Square, Netflix is nominated for its first Academy Award.

By Cbr Rolling Blog

Gone are the days when TV shows belonged on the box and films found their fame on the big screen.

Netflix has changed the way we watch TV and films, with enough success that it shows original programming, with House of Cards and Orange is the New Black predicted to be the big ones to watch in 2014.

Netflix has secured its first Oscar nomination with The Square, a show about the revolution in Egypt from 2011, which premieres on Netflix on Friday.

The Square is nominated for the Best Feature Documentary Oscar.

Last week, Netflix won its first Golden Globe as Robin Wright of House of Cards won Best Actress in a TV Drama.
