Mistletoe and whine

Most IT professionals aren’t expecting a merry Christmas.

By Cbr Rolling Blog

We at CBR are readying ourselves for the Christmas break, when we will all leave our dungeon and travel to our respective family homes for a well-earned rest, where we will enjoy the soft sounds of carol singing and relatives bickering.

Hey, we’re just glad our editor, Duncan MacRae, isn’t cooking our Christmas dinners (he’s promised cold turkey for the office on Thursday…).

However, while nearly all of Britain shuts the door on the world for a few days, let’s spare a thought for those who don’t have that luxury.

No, not the emergency services; IT professionals!

A survey of IT professionals conducted by network management firm Ipswitch found that nearly two-thirds of them grumbled that they will be called away over the holidays to fix everything from crashed servers to glitching Wi-Fi.

Here’s a helpful infographic for any companies who leave their IT team on call while they enjoy their brussel sprouts (actually, has anyone ever enjoyed brussel sprouts?), or for any IT heads brave enough to wave in the direction of the CEO.

It outlines some of the common problems experienced by those still working at the business over Christmas, and why there’s better ways to solve the problem than contacting IT straight away – it also suggests some 2014 resolutions that could make things easier for IT in future.
