Is Hershey’s 3D chocolate printer anything new?

The US-based sweet maker is working with 3D Systems on a printer that would make chocolate.

By Cbr Rolling Blog

Yesterday, Hershey’s, a US-based chocolate manufacturer, said they’re partnering with printing company 3D systems to chocolate and other sweets. It all sounds very innovative, doesn’t it?

Well, at least that’s what William Papa, the head of research and development at Hershey’s, thinks.

In a statement, he said: "Whether it’s creating a whole new form of candy or developing a new way to produce it, we embrace new technologies such as 3-D printing as a way to keep moving our timeless confectionery treats into the future."

So does the 3D Systems, which told the Wall Street Journal, "it’s a first of its kind deal and an only of its kind deal" as well as unveiling it as "the world’s first and only professional-certified, kitchen-ready 3D food printer" at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Wow – very innovative indeed.

But hang on….A chocolate printer was already introduced in 2011 from the UK’s University of Exeter, which you can buy here.
