Google Nexus 7 in £180 Hudl scuffle

Play.com keeps the tablet in competition.

By Cbr Rolling Blog

With announcements of the much-anticipated Nexus 5 and new Nexus 10 mere days away (hopefully), the Google Nexus 7 2013 is already becoming yesterday’s news. Poor thing.

However, in a bid to keep what I happily herald as the best tablet of 2013 in competition with other 7-inch tablets like Tesco’s Hudl and Argos’ unremarkable offering, Play.com has slashed the price of the Nexus 7 2013 to just £180 for the 16GB version. A cool 10 per cent discount!

On the official Android online store Google Play, the Nexus 7 is still £199. The 32Gb model costs £240 and the the 32GB, 4G version is £299.

Even without the £20 price cut, the Nexus 7 2013 is still a whole load cheaper than its new 7-inch rival, the iPad mini with Retina Display. Even the older iPad mini still costs £240.

The new Nexus 10 is reported to see Samsung replaced by Asus as the manufacturer of the 10-inch tablet, while the incoming Nexus 5 is set to add an inch to the Google Nexus 4.

When the new devices do launch, the Nexus 7 should join them in boasting the long-awaited next version of Android, Android 4.4 KitKat.
