Ever wanted someone to draw you as a Simpsons cartoon character, or make you a personalised dream catcher, or have someone serenade you via video link while hiding their modesty with just a guitar?
Well, the website Fiverr can offer you all that and more.
I stumbled across this bizarre website the other day when it popped up as a banner ad. People advertise their (often unique) services or ‘gigs’ online, starting from $5 in price, and people can pay for the services. It is as simple as that.
Popular categories include music and audio, gifts, video and animation and writing and translation. There are many artistic talents available on the site, with people offering to sing for you, draw you, or make you a personalized gift.
At a time when the internet is over-run with ‘unique gift’ sites and people selling their questionable talents, this site is actually rather fun to browse and has some interesting gigs to offer. At a fiver, some of these are quite a bargain.
Admittedly, there is a range of talent. In the audio/music section there is ‘record stuff in my Jamaican accent’ – not such a talent, but then there is the more admirable ‘create a custom and personalized rap song’ – the guy actually sounds quite good!
All gigs are rated and ranked, as buyer are encouraged to rate sellers on the site. This is a good way to weed out the bad from the good. There is a guy who has had a video online for just two days and he already has over three thousand five star ratings: pretty impressive.
Here is a round up of my favourite gigs on fiverr:
– Wedding monograms made by a professional graphic designer
– Personalised professional pop art paintings
– A Hogwarts acceptance letter sent to you in the post
– Whiteboard animations (can be used for video presentation)
– Photo message written on someone’s boobs (yes, this is an official service)
– Personalised video message animation from Despicable Me minion
– Write SEO targeted web content
– Professional text editing
– Draw you as a Simpsons cartoon character
– Photoshop service
