With the internet of wearables (IoW) forcing its way into the consumer market, the Home Office is also looking at it and its advantages thinking of arming police officers with body cameras to prevent crime and keep national security at the top.

The technology can be purchased by anyone, which can foster concerns surrounding IoW privacy.

CBR compiles a list of the best five wearable cameras out there.

1. GoPro HERO4 Black

Cost: £410

GoPro put in the market the most potent wearable camera. The GoPro HERO4 Black has an ultra high-resolution of 4K30 and 2.7K601 video combined with 1080p120 and 720p240 in slow motion.

The device is waterproof up to 40m, with 12MP photos at 30 frames per second. The camera also features an improved system for night pictures.

GoPro introduced the HiLight Tag solution, which allows users to mark key moments while recording and quickly locate parts of the footage when playing the record back.

2. EE 4G action camera

Cost: £100 with EE contract
£300 with pre-paid network subscription

EE is working on a smart wearable camera that will be able to live broadcast up to ten minutes of footage via 4G.

The small cubic device will work with the skeegle streaming app, which enables users to view content only through invitation keeping privacy at its core.

With 64GBs of internal memory, the gadget is waterproof up to 60m deep and has a resolution of 13MP.

3. Autographer

Cost: £300

The Autographer wearable camera includes a GPS unit that bookmarks the geographic location of where pictures are taken.

The 5MP clip on device also boosts an ambient light, accelerometer, magnetometer, PIR and temperature thermometer.

The camera pairs up with the user’s smartphone over an app, and can also connect to computers displaying image galleries in chronological order, on a map or on ‘cinema mode’.

4. MeCam X

Cost: £150

MeCam X has a video resolution of 1080p with 30fps and also 720p with 60fps. It is a 5MP machine, with a chance of 12MP interpolated.

It connects with a smart device over Wi-Fi and communicates to the MeCam HD app and Remote Watch.

The wearable has a memory capacity of 32GB, can record audio and a battery life of three hours.

5. Narrative Clip 2

Cost: £130

Narrative launched the second version of Narrative Clip with a better display of 8MP and a higher resolution of 3264×2448 (4:3).

The camera has a battery power of 315 mAh and connects with other devices via USB, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The company also built-in an accelerometer, GPS, magnetometer and a gyroscope.
