These people don’t often underestimate the size of an emerging market so all those planning to pour fortunes into personal digital assistants may want to look at what Nynex Corp’s Norwell, Massachusetts based BIS Strategic Decisions, the market for personal digital devices will top only $500m for hardware and $150m to $200m in software by 1999: that looks like the biggest douse of cold water on all the high hopes imaginable Apple Computer Inc went from zero to $1,000m on its laptop computers in the first year; the researchers say that sales of personal productivity products like Sharp Corp’s Wizard will grow by 10.5% over last year to $228m in 1992, and that growth will double through 1995 as product introductions by Apple, Sharp and others drive retailer and consumer interest but with those sorts of numbers to pitch for for the total market, it’s hardly worth their while, and the numbers look at least an order of magnitude out.
