Netware backup software house Vinca Corp has a new version of its StandbyServer for NetWare and IntranetWare adding offsite disaster recovery capabilities to its product. The Orem, Utah company says its clustering software enables several local or remote standby machines to be connected to one primary server. It is aimed at organizations requiring high availability mission critical servers and real-time copies of data and applications stored in different locations, and at government organizations who are required by law to keep an off site copy of their data. The company says that to run the system, organizations need to have a high end T3 or Asynchronous Transfer Mode communication line. The product mirrors real-time data enabling automatic recovery of both software and hardware faults. The current version offers local and remote server mirroring in one product, but a low-end version aimed at the mass market will separate the two and support low speed communications lines. It is due onto the market around November. StandbyServer for NetWare- IntranetWare is available now and costs $4,000. Vinca also offers versions of the StandbyServer software for Windows NT, and IBM Corp has an agreement to resell the software for NT and OS/2 systems.
