Sony has warned customers not to use its recently launched Vaio Fit 11A laptops over concerns related to its battery, which may overheat and catch fire.
In a statement, the company stated it had identified that, "the non-removable battery packs provided by a third party supplier, included in (and limited to) VAIO Fit 11A released in February 2014 with below listed model names could potentially malfunction and cause overheating, resulting in partial burns to the chassis of the PC."
Users of Sony’s European versions of the laptop are advised to immediately turn them off, detach them from AC adapter and discontinue use. A formal recall is expected soon.
"For your safety, if you are in possession of one of the PCs listed above, please immediately turn off your computer, disconnect it from its AC adapter and discontinue use," Sony added.
"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
Sony’s latest warning comes two months after the company revealed plans to sell its loss making Vaio-brand PC unit to Japan Industrial Partners, in a bid to bolster its electronics business.
