A US Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio, has ruled in favour of a computer company that insisted its software be used solely with its hardware: Computer/Dynamics was sued by AI Root, a beekeeping supply company, when it refused to reconfigure its software for a more powerful computer unless AI Root agreed to a licensing agreement preventing the company from using Computer/Dynamics’ software on another vendor’s hardware; Root alleged that the licence violated US anti-trust laws, but the court disagreed, saying that sales and inventory software packages were a dime a dozen, and if Root didn’t like one package, or the terms attached, it could find another.
