A management team and separate headquarters for the Archer Group’s newly formed Unix International Inc company to promote Unix System V.4 is expected to be established by the end of January somewhere in New Jersey, and interim president Don Herman will make way for a permanent head by April, according to Computer Systems News. There will be a three-tiered membership, starting with a $500,000 principal membership fee for large hardware vendors, moving down to $100,000 for general membership and $10,000 for associate membership. By contrast, the rival Open Software Foundation charges $4.3m for sponsorship. But the expected spin-off of AT&T’s Unix operations is still said to be some time away.
