Russian video conferencing developer TrueConf (formerly known as VideoPort) has launched its new hardware and software suite, TrueConf 3D in Russia.

The new TrueConf 3D is a video conferencing software offering that uses specialised cameras for live stereo imaging and simultaneous transmission of three-dimensional (3D) media across networks, revolutionising the virtual meeting.

The offering integrates stereo imaging and playback into a single management unit. The unique feature of the TrueConf 3D system is the automatic scene recognition technology, which allows for the automatic selection of the shooting method on parallel or convergent axes, and which allows for their combination into a single 3D image, the company said.

The TrueConf 3D video complex includes: a stereo camera with a module for recording images in 3D format; a client application for transmission of stereo data; a monitor with a sweep of 120Hz; and Nvidia 3D vision active shutter glasses.

TrueConf specialist technicians said that the TrueConf 3D is in its beta-testing phase, and is scheduled to be available to corporate clients by the end of 2011.

TrueConf research department head Ivan Meleshko said while creating their own 3D communication offering, they had to study stereoscopic data compression peculiarities and find the correct way to automatically capture 3D content in video conferencing.

"Our next step in the development of TrueConf will be the creation of auto-stereoscopic systems that do not require glasses," Meleshko said.
