Trimble, a provider technologies for field and mobile workers, has launched Trimble Ranger 3 rugged handheld computer.
According to the company the Trimble Ranger 3 is ideal for surveying, construction, field service, forestry, mapping, public safety, utilities, and other outdoor or service-related applications.
Designed with a sunlight-readable VGA display and long-life battery, the Trimble Ranger 3 handheld computer is built tough to withstand the elements while working in the field.
The company claims the new Ranger 3 computer meets military standards for temperature extremes, drops, vibration, humidity and altitude. It is sealed against dust and it can survive immersion in up to a meter of water for 30 minutes.
Ranger 3 comes with integrated GPS receiver, five megapixel camera and 1D laser barcode scanner capture asset data that can be geotagged as part of field service and logistics applications.
It also features GPS receiver, combined with electronic compass and accelerometer, provide location, direction and motion data together on one device. Direct data input is supported with the QWERTY alphanumeric keypad and large touchscreen.
The new computer additionally features integrated 3G GSM WWAN, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features, the Ranger 3 handheld has the wireless capabilities to connect and communicate with nearby devices, the Internet and corporate networks, enabling mobile applications to synchronise data with office servers and databases from the field.
Ranger 3 also features a Cortex-A8 superscalar processor, 8 GB of Flash memory and the flexibility to support additional features.
The Ranger 3 series includes the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system. Trimble also provides a comprehensive Ranger 3 Software Development Kit with a hardware-specific API to use in conjunction with Microsoft development tools and resources.
Trimble’s Mobile Computing Solutions Division general manager Bill Martin said a great deal of experience and teamwork created the Ranger 3. Not only is it the ultimate device for mobile worker productivity, the company’s SDK makes it easy for software developers to quickly take a solution to market.
