Intel and Toshiba have entered into a joint IoT collaboration to boost security in the industrial infrastructure sector, including energy, transportation and healthcare.
The companies said work will be done to improve IoT security for Toshiba’s industrial infrastructure system solutions that integrates Intel’s latest security technologies and domain expertise into Toshiba’s solutions.
Defending Toshiba’s customer data and businesses from up-and-coming cyber threats will be the venture’s main focus.
The two companies said that by the end of March 2016 they aim to have validated proof of concept(s) by collaborating in pilot projects that will help to advance progress in the IoT security space.
They added that plans to develop and optimise Toshiba’s security solution offerings using the framework of Intel Security Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) are also part of the group effort.
Japanese Toshiba said it will adopt Intel’s security solutions, including CIP, security information and event management (SIEM), whitelisting, endpoint security and next generation firewall to reinforce the security capabilities of its IoT and industrial infrastructure system solutions.
Shigeyoshi Shimotsuji, EVP of Toshiba’s industrial ICT solutions, said: "This collaboration allows Toshiba to benefit from Intel’s latest security technologies and deep experience and will boost the security capabilities of our industrial infrastructure solutions."
Doug Davis, GM of IoT Group at Intel Corporation, added: "Security is a critical factor to the success of IoT businesses. "Intel Security CIP provides the technology for a highly secure managed platform that includes fundamental protection building blocks."
