The Thales HSM 8000 is a server-based hardware security module or HSM that can be used to provide the cryptographic functions to secure a range of financial applications. Hardware security modules provide cryptographic services to security enabled applications via TCP/IP connections.
The HSM 8000 supports digital signatures and certificates. The Racal division of Thales now known as Thales e-Security competes in this market with the likes of nCipher plc with its PayShield HSM, as well as SafeNet Inc., the company that last year bought Rainbow Technologies Inc.
