Teradici, a PCoIP (PC-over-IP) technology developer, has rolled out the new multi-protocol hardware zero clients for virtual desktops.

According to Teradici, the new zero clients enable IT managers to deploy PCoIP clients across their organisations and connect to a range of hosted compute resources including: VMware View virtual desktops through VMware View 3 client mode; blade, tower or rack 3D graphics workstations through PCoIP protocol mode; and Microsoft Terminal Server sessions through RDP client mode.

In addition, desktop clients based on the company’s TERA1100 portal processor are zero clients that can support any user type from task workers, to mainstream office workers, to workstation/visualisation application users.

Teradici said that these new zero clients have no x86 processors, no application O/S, and no drivers, which reportedly simplifies deployment and management. With additional features such as no local data storage and USB device authorisation, PCoIP hardware zero client products are secure and resistant to viruses that can impact traditional remote desktop installations.

Dan Cordingley, president and CEO of Teradici, said, “The combination of VMware View™ with our hardware-based PCoIP technology along with a wide variety of client products from leading OEMs creates a powerful solution that IT can use to confidently consolidate any user.”
