Teleport TP in Moscow, Russia has started construction of a satellite base station in Moscow. The new service will have 1,900 communication lines and will be able to support data transmission speeds up to 64Kbps, which is three times the existing capacity. It will be equipped with two 18 metre antennas. The $12m contract to deliver the hardware for the centre was signed with AT&T Network Systems International. The new centre will start operation next month. Teleport TP hopes its communication services will be available at prices 10% to 25% lower than rival communication companies in Moscow. Teleport TP was formed in February 1992 as a joint stock company by the Russian-Italian joint venture enterprise Technopark in Moscow, and the Intertelecom company, a state-owned organisation responsible for the operation of international communications in Russia.
