Apple Computer Inc may be getting to the stage where it’s old- hat, but there are still some software companies ready to give them the benefit of the doubt. Thus XAOS Tool Inc has decided on Apple as its first target for its sexy new graphics program including artificial intelligence techniques and object server technology. The graphics technology, which XAOS says is designed as the next generation Adobe Photoshop Plug-ins, was shown yesterday for the first time at the Apple Systems Engineering Training Conference held in Florida. The tool includes a patented array of brushes that make possible image processing using textural mutations of genetic algorithms and neural network parameters. It includes an object-oriented development environment designed for imaging, and a new interactive imaging substrate, which together are intended to provide a foundation for all future development on the desktop and on the web. The technology has been under development for three years at San Francisco, Califormia-based XAOS, which has also been working with Thomson Sun Interactive LLC on its interactive technology, and plans software versions for Silicon Graphics Inc, Sun Microsystems and Windows 95 and NT hardware. Its current products include Paint Alchemy, Terrazzo, TypeCaster and Fresco.
