Synology, a provider of Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers for the home and small to medium sized business markets, has launched the DiskStation DS211+, a 2-bay NAS server for office and users to share files, centralise backup, and protect data.

The new DiskStations comes with Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM) 3.0 software to provide an interface for managing the server.

The DS211+ offers hot-swap drive bays, enabling businesses to minimise downtime in the event of a drive failure. For photographers, it also offers an integrated SD card reader, helping easier transfers to the NAS, the company said.

Surveillance Station 5 enables the DiskStation to become an NVR offering, and it supports up to 12 IP channels at once, chosen from a list of over 700 camera models.

The new DSM 3.0 features ADS integration, iSCSI support, and hardware encryption engine with 256 bit AES share-level encryption.

Using the intuitive DSM 3.0 interface enables users to manage all aspects of the server. Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) enables users to create a redundant volume, protecting their data against disk failure without requiring expertise with RAID technology.

Synology America product marketing manager Jason Bonoan said with support for 3TB drives, that allows for volumes up to 6TB, plenty of space for many small businesses, this new model just represents a value unmatched by DAS so-called ‘solutions.
