Sybase, an SAP company, has released IQ 15.3 to beta customers, which introduces the PlexQ Distributed Query Platform, a Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) architecture that accelerates queries by distributing work to many computers in a grid configuration.
The company said PlexQ utilises a shared-everything approach that dynamically manages and balances query workloads across all the compute nodes in a Sybase IQ MPP configuration.
The PlexQ’s automatic workload re-balancer works to avoid contention among users for system resources.
Sybase said IQ 15.3 PlexQ Distributed Query Platform uses an MPP shared-everything architecture and surpasses typical shared-nothing MPP architectures with better concurrency, self service ad-hoc queries, and independent scale out of compute and storage resources.
With this architecture, PlexQ can exceed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) through resource provisioning that allows nodes to be grouped together as unified images that can be assigned to different application profiles.
The company claimed IQ 15.3 PlexQ Distributed Query Platform solution enables users to harness the power of multiple compute resources in a Sybase IQ PlexQ environment; empowers system managers to scale out Sybase IQ PlexQ nodes with any popular hardware; and allows system managers to group subsets of compute resources as logical entities.
Sybase director of analytics product management Joydeep Das said the IQ 15.3 PlexQ Distributed Query Platform is an innovative MPP architecture that accelerates highly complex queries by allowing a query to be distributed across all nodes in the Sybase IQ PlexQ environment for increased performance levels while maintaining simplicity of deployment and administration.
