Tivoli Systems Inc has garnered new support for its Application Management Specification, a set of programming interfaces it is trying to get independent software vendors to adopt so that their applications will connect with the company’s distributed management environment (CI No 2,661). Tivoli has got Forte Software Inc, Informix Corp, Intersolv Corp, Oracle Corp, Softool Corp and Unify Corp to join original collaborator, PowerSoft Corp. A preliminary specification is due this month; the final set is due in the fourth quarter after all the partners, plus some of Tivoli’s first-tier customers, sign-off on the thing. The specification will be based upon the Desktop Management Task Force’s Desktop Management Interface standard for managing desktop hardware and software. The company’s specification will provide an extension to a particular management information format defined in the management interface, meaning Desktop Management Interface-compliant tools will able to manage Application Management Specification-compliant programs.
