SuperMac Technology Inc of Sunnyvale, California announced the Cinepak Compression Accelerator Kit – a hardware and software combination that reduces the time it takes to compress digital video on Macintosh computers into Cinepak format by up to 66%. The Kit includes two SuperMac ThunderStorm dual-signal processor boards and the Cinepak signal processor software. It uses the signal processor power of the ThunderStorm boards to pre-process and speed up compression of digital video into Cinepak format. Cinepak compression software requires Macintosh Operating System 6.07 or later and is compatible with Adobe Premiere 2.0 and 3.0, CoSA After Effects 1.0 and 1.1, Equilibrium DeBabelizer 1.0 and 1.1, and Adobe Photoshop 2.0.1 and 2.5. All SuperMac, Apple Computer and third-party graphics boards are Cinepak compression software-compatible. The Kit will be $1,500. Previous owners of SuperMac’s ThunderStorm can get a stand-alone version from SuperMac for $500.
