The Sun Ray Server Software 3.0 consumes a reduced amount of bandwidth to enable remote deployment across DSL or cable modem connections for home use while support for the PC/SC smart card framework enables the system to run advanced smart card middleware applications.
The Sun Ray Server Software 3.0 also now supports the Java Desktop System (JDS), SuSE Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux,
Additionally, Sun has launched the Run Ray 170 with a 17-inch flat panel display, again suited to home use. Looking to the future, Sun is working with Lucent Technologies Inc to provide Voice Over IP (VOIP) support.
