Sun Microsystems Inc is now shipping its Java Web Server 1.0. Written entirely in the caffeinated language by its JavaSoft Inc unit, the server includes the Servelet API, a way of extending the product by writing server-side applets. Sun says the product comes with HTTP 1.0, proxy and load balancing capabilities. There is a free Servlet developer’s kit and Servlet Runner testing tool on the website. Sun has no plans right now to bundle it with any of its hardware. It’s available now for a 120-day free trial, after which Web Server 1.0 costs $295 for the version including Secure sockets Layer (SSL); $95 without SSL.
