The key products in the merger of mid-sized electronic design automation systems vendors Summit Design Inc and Viewlogic Inc, announced late last week, could turn out to be Viewlogic’s recently announced eArchitect simulation product line and a forthcoming product from Summit called VisualSLD. eArchitect is a prototyping tool running on Windows NT and Unix, enabling systems designers to concurrently analyze various hardware and software architectures at the beginning of their designs. VisualSLD is a system design tool that is expected to be released early next year. The merged company, likely to be renamed within the next few weeks, is expected to focus on higher-level design tools. The firms are thought to have a combined annual revenue of around $40m.
