With competition in the fault-tolerant Unix market hotting up, Stratus Computer Inc is set to reveal details of its long awaited Unix stategy at UniForum this week. The company plans to offer Unix V.3 (and later V.4) across its entire range of systems, as an alternative to its proprietary VOS environment. Stratus is thought to have been working with Olivetti, which takes Stratus machines OEM for Europem on the kernel level of the implementation for some time. Last October the company made its first positive move towards Unix with the launch of low-end 68030-based systems, promising Unix from the first quarter of this year, and at the high end the company is working on Intel 80860-based hardware, also planned to be launched later this year.
