So much for the spirit of openness at Sun Microsystems Inc. ComputerWire was thrown out of a financial briefing held on the good ship Spirit of New Jersey during the company’s Solaris 7 press day at New York’s Chelsea Piers. Sun really doesn’t want anyone but the yeah-sayers and stock boosters getting a look at its business does it? Is it right that public companies should exclude the press from briefings at which any Tom, Dick or Harriet who claims to offer securities advice can be present? I can do that. Buy Sun stock. But don’t quote me or sue me or before you do read the 10,000 word disclaimer below. For what it’s worth, the whole Solaris 7 event was supposedly an unmitigated PR nightmare. The SunSoft team handling the event blew up, the scheduling went out of the window – we know, we were there – and Sun’s hardware team had to step into the breech to pull the thing out of the bag.
