Smart washing machines set for pre-Christmas launch

News: GE to introduce machine that uses Amazon’s Dash to reorder detergent automatically.

By Joao Lima

Amazon has partnered with several IoT manufactures to strengthen its position in this new market.

The company has teamed up with GE and Samsung, who said they will integrate Amazon’s Dash Replenishment Service into smart devices.

GE said it will launch a washing and drying machine ahead of the Christmas season that uses the technology to automatically reorder detergent and softener from Amazon’s website.

The device uses infrared sensors or scales to determine how much washing product is left and then places the order.

GE also said the machine will have intelligence to dispense the right amount of detergent each time, avoiding wastage.

Other companies adopting Dash include August, Gmate, Oster, Obe, Petnet, Clever Pet, Sutro, Thync, and Sealed Air.

Amazon launched the Dash button earlier this year. The Wi-Fi connected device has other applications, including ordering groceries, pet products, personal care items and others.
