Markham, Ontario-based Geac Computer Corp Ltd, now a library automation and other vertical market turnkey systems specialist but once Canada’s premier minicomputer manufacturer, has bought CLSI Inc, Newtonville, Massachusetts and its subsidiaries in Canada, France the Netherlands and the UK. It will not give the financial details of the acquisition until today. Geac reckons that the acquisition makes it the largest library information processing systems company in the world with over 25% of the market; it was previously in third place. CLSI provides turnkey systems including hardware, software, professional services and support to public, academic and specialist libraries. CLSI will add about $16m to its library turnover, Geac noted.
