Siemens AG is to market GEC Plessey Telecommunications Ltd’s 3220 multi-standard modem as part of its own portfolio; GEC Plessey claims that the modem can achieve a tenfold improvement in performance over similar modems, even in the presence of high levels of line distortion, enabling transmission accuracy and speed to be maintained for much longer: the modem uses signal processors, rather than modem chip sets, which according to GEC Plessey, gives it more versatility than other modems: the processors also form part of the GEC Plessey strategy of designing products that are easily approvable in international markets, with minimal hardware modifications.
