Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG has a vision of becoming a ‘holistic’ systems and user-centered computing company, and has announced a fairly major round of internal re-structuring which will see just two separate businesses emerge, one focusing on outsourcing and the other on products and systems work. Both divisions will work together under one roof, and will apparently enable the company to become a ‘fully fledged business partner’ to its customers, rather than just an IT provider. By that, it seems to be following the well trodden path of all one-time hardware manufacturers, into a systems and services provider. Asked if this meant it would recommend for example Compaq hardware over its own, Siemens replied, whatever was best for the client.
