SBS has been under growing pressure from its parent company, electronics giant Siemens AG, to improve its profitability, and the division revealed earlier this year that it was considering disposing of under-performing parts of the business.
The maintenance operation is called Product Related Services, and according to the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, it made revenue of 1.3bn euros ($1.5bn) in the year ending September 30, 2005, accounting for a fifth of SBS’ total sales.
