Samsung is the latest technology giant to make a speedy move into the smart car space to rival companies like Google and Apple.

The South Korean firm said it will assemble a team to build next-generation auto parts for in-car entertainment, satellite navigation and autonomous driving technologies to drive growth in this segment.

The new unit will not be part of the company’s current three business arms, which include a mobile, components and a consumer-electronics units. However, it will collaborate with the mentioned units to design smart car products, such as entertainment screens.

This was the first time Samsung unveiled plans to build smart car products. The unit will be led by Park Jong Hwan, serving as EVP.

Last month, Samsung announced its participation in the Audi Progressive SemiConductor Program (PSCP) as the first semiconductor memory supplier.
