UK insurer Royal London has awarded a contract to Fujitsu to host its VME (Virtual Machine Environment) operating system.
Under the five-year contract, Fujitsu will also carry out the support functions, operations, processing, and development for Royal London’s long-term ‘closed’ book of insurance policies.
Royal London is investing in new technology to push its business forward, and was looking for a low risk, cost effective solution to get long-term support for applications that will be required for many years.
By handing over the support of this IT platform to Fujitsu, Royal London is expected to get a secure and reliable long-term service, which will help the company focus on IT modernisation.
During the initial phase, Fujitsu will also try to improve disaster recovery services and help Royal London to make the applications more responsive and efficient.
Royal London chief technology officer Andy McGarrie said: "The customer experience is our primary focus. On this application, we have an estimated 1.5million policies to service.
"Our main concern was ensuring that customers are not adversely affected, either during the transition of the hosting of the mainframe, or through the continued support. We want a very stable service that works like clockwork and Fujitsu delivers that."
