Digital office equipment provider Ricoh Americas has launched Aficio printers, a new series of black-and-white multifunction printers (MFPs).

The company said that the new printers are equipped with the Java-compatible Software Development Kit (SDK) to enable users to create custom applications. The new printers feature Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to search local databases and locate scan-to-email addresses.

The printers are also equipped with a new in-line FD5000 Multi-Fold unit which offers different types of folds including Z-Fold, Letter Fold-in and Letter Fold-out (tri-fold), Gate Fold and Double Parallel Fold (four-fold).

The company claims that the Stored Print option enhances the process of reprinting by locking in document configurations instead of re-process files or re-programme settings. The optional facsimile hardware comes equipped with LAN faxing, enabling users to send and receive documents to a fax number directly from the desktop.

The printers reportedly come with enhanced security measures like Card Authentication Package software which enables users to authenticate network for user identification, and the DataOverwriteSecurity System (DOSS) which erases latent image data after every print job to defend documents against hard drive theft.
