Among the new products is a UHF portal, or gateway, designed to read a large number of RFID labels attached to plastic crates containing food, liquids and metals — all of which present specific challenges at UHF.

The aim of the consortium, which also includes Feig Electronic and rfiq solutions Ltd, is to pool collective knowledge to design new RFID products.

The group launched in 2004 and is led by Stockport, UK-based Intellident Ltd. Cmobined it boasts more than 100 RFID installations across Europe, which involves the deployment of nearly 10 million RFID labels.

Intellident said it would host demonstrations of the new UHF portal in distribution centers.
