Raytheon provides electronics, mission systems integration and other capabilities in the areas of sensing; effects; and command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as a range of mission support services.
The Raytheon-Lockheed Martin team has developed and installed new automated radar processing and display systems at Chicago O’Hare International, Denver International, Lambert-St Louis International and Minneapolis-St Paul International as part of the Federal Aviation Administration Terminal Area Modernization Replacement (TAMR) program. Raytheon is the prime contractor for the TAMR.
According to Raytheon, the TAMR system upgrades addressed hardware obsolescence and capacity issues and provides an enhanced computer-human interface within the National Airspace System for air traffic controllers. As a result, better efficiencies are anticipated for the management of aircraft separation and sequencing; traffic alerts and weather advisories; and radar vectoring for aircraft arrivals and departures.
Additionally, the new display and processor technologies provide for future terminal enhancements such as automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast, or ADS-B, said Raytheon.
Earlier in October, the US Army has awarded Raytheon a $17.9 million contract to develop a sensor system prototype to give helicopter crews full day or night spherical situational awareness while eliminating visual obstructions caused by the airframe and its contents.
