Qualcomm Technologies has expanded its Snapdragon 800 processor portfolio after launching the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor.

The new processor is said to be a step ahead of its predecessors by supporting not only Ultra HD video capture and playback but also Ultra HD UI, gaming and imaging.

Claimed to be the company’s most advanced mobile processor till date, the Snapdragon 805 is supposed to offer an improved connected user experience for smartphones and tablets.

The Snapdragon 805 processor comes with the first commercial hardware support for HEVC (H.265) decode that supports HD playback, enabling devices to stream the captured Ultra HD video content to an external monitor.

The new processor will also enable the device to capture, edit and share higher quality photos in low light conditions with the commercial mobile 1Giga-pixel per second (GP/s) image signal processor (ISP) packs and camera postprocessor (CPP) speed, the company said.

Qualcomm has equipped the processor with its new LTE modem, the MDM9x35, which offers better connected mobile experiences with support for 40MHz LTE Advanced CA on both LTE TDD and LTE FDD duplexing modes.

The company has started sampling of the Snapdragon 805 processor, while it is expected to be available in commercial devices by the first half of 2014.
