Although out of the general purpose Unix systems marketplace since last November, when it sold off that side of the business to Motorola Computer Systems, Plexus Computers Inc is still using its own hardware as the basis of its Extended Data Processing mixed mode database systems, which combine text and image data over networked systems. Now the company has dropped the entry level price of the systems with the introduction of a new Intel 80386-based database server. Combined with four MS-DOS micros, a scanner, and an eight page per minute laser printer, along with the XDP and database software and 300Mb storage, the new base level XDP configuration costs $97,840 in the US. The P/386 server runs the Informix database, supporting up to eight users.
